Mad competition weekend!

March 14th and 15th have been hectic for the club, with members attending the BUCS indoor finals and Hampshire indoor finals.

Having both qualifed as top-8 teams in the BUCS Winter Postal competition, the club’s A- and B- BUCS Teams spent Saturday 14th contesting the BUCS indoor team finals. Both got off to a strong start, with Southampton B knocking out Newcastle A – the leading qualifiers – in the first round. Meeting and beating Southampton B in the semi-finals, the A-Team went on to lose to an exceptionally strong Aberdeen team in the finals. After the 3rd-4th place shoot-offs, Southampton B finished in 3rd, giving the club a 2nd/3rd finish for the A- and B- Teams respectively.

On Sunday 15th, James Paterson, Jen Barber and Sara Jane Hunter went on to compete in the BUCS Indoor Individual and Ladies Individual finals.

After a tough fight, James took first place in the Individual event, whilst Jen and Sara Jane tied for second with two other competitors in the Ladies Individual. After counting-back (a tie-break method), Jen ended up in 3rd, and SJ was unlucky to end up out of the medals in 4th. Many BUCS points were earned for the university!

Back in Hampshire, Rich Hemingway and Sarah Osborne-Fender spent Sunday morning contesting the Hampshire Pairs final. After tying for first place, the graduated gauges came out (an alternative tie-break method), and again the University fell foul of tie-breaking, with Rich and Sarah finishing in 2nd place.

Later that afternoon,  Rich Hemingway and Charlie Asquith went on to contest the Hampshire Individual Handicap final. After shooting a perfect 200, Charlie took the title, whilst Rich ended up in 9th with a 199!
