Southampton EUS Match

On Sunday 30th November our club is hosting the Southampton leg of the inter-uni GP matches where hopefully we will be joined by Cambridge, Oxford, Reading and London Uni rifle teams.

This isn't part of BUCS (formally BUSA) but is designed to create a series of friendly matches, giving new shooters a fantastic opportunity to get match experience under really friendly conditions and also to meet and be social with members of other uni rifle clubs!

Most importantly...EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO SHOOT!!!
The only conditions are:
1) You need to have been set up with a jacket and sling
2) You need to have shot at least one ten-bull card
If you don't fit the criteria then there is still pleanty of time to get down the range and practise!
At the moment it is unclear how much coaching will be allowed at the match but the committee should be allowed to spot for less experienced shooters. Each shooter will be expected to shoot two ten-bull cards, each with a time limit of around 10-15mins (pleanty of time really) so it really would be in your best interest to get a bit of practice in beforehand.

Afterwards there will be a social involving a pub dinner with the other uni teams, which is always merry :)

Because our range is a bit too small to fit everyone in, we are hiring another range with a bigger clubroom about 10mins drive from our range. I think we should be OK for transport but if anyone does have a car and would be willing to drive if needed, could you let me know  please?

If you want to come email
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ! Include in your message: name, experience so far, kit (rifle number/jacket etc, if you know it) and if you could drive.

Any questions direct my way too...

Thanks,

Sam xxx

p.s.  I expect a full complement of experienced members too

Post Trial Shoots

Trial Shoots are more or less over now. We've been seeing quite a few people coming back on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but it would be great to see even more.

Now we've got over the initial start-of-term chaos, there's no need to book slots to come and shoot. The online booking system is going back into storage until next year. Just pitch up on a Wednesday afternoon (2pm-5pm) or Saturday morning (10am-2pm) and we'll get you shooting.

We'd ask that you turn up sooner rather than later. We fill up the squadding board on a 1st-come-1st-served basis, so don't turn up at 1.30pm on a Saturday hoping to shoot - we'll be getting ready to go to the pub for lunch! Additionally,on the second saturday of each month, an external shooting club have the range booked from 2pm, so there is no room for running late.

If you've missed all this, but want to get involved, contact Rob Paines or Lawrence Greenfield on the "Contact Us" page and they'll sort you out with directions, etc to get to the range.

NSRA Meeting

Hello all,

Hope you're having good summers. A few of us were at the NSRA meeting last week and I thought I'd send this out and let you know how we got on.

It was an interesting week weather-wise, mainly wet and windy (16 clips wasn't enough to hold the targets on the frames!) and poor Sam had one of her details stopped halfway through due to a thunderstorm and torrential rain(!) but it brightened up towards the end of the week in time for the Roberts/Bobs competitions.

Scores throughout the week varied with the conditions but everybody shot very well and finished within the top 25% of their classes in the Championship Aggregate, with Sam coming 2nd in B class and Rich 3rd in D class, earning themselves promotion. Mark finished 19th (out of 123!) in A class and James finished 18th in X class with his second ever 200 in one competition and was also promoted in the 3P after winning B class. Well done to all.
